When God Interrupts Our Fear
We all wrestle with earthly fears: the chilling grip of death, the dizzying drop of heights, the dread of spiders. These anxieties, like a relentless undertow, threaten to drag us under, making it a struggle to keep our heads above the waters. Fear is an inescapable human reality. While preachers boldly proclaim, "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind," acknowledging this truth doesn't magically erase our anxieties. We have to believe God and live it. The power of God's word lies in its ability to interrupt fear's relentless narrative. Consider the disciples, tossed on a stormy sea in John 6:16-21. Terror seized them as Jesus walked on water. But his simple words, "It is I; do not be afraid," shattered their fear. Are you besieged by loneliness? God's reassuring voice breaks through: "I am with you." Are you weary and burdened? He offers this: "Take my yoke, for it is easy and light." Each divine interruption brings a wave of peace. This is why the Psalmist declares, "Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words," and "I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoils." God's word is a treasure, a refuge. Just as we secure a precious find, we must deposit God's word daily into our hearts. Immerse yourself in scripture, and allow its power to interrupt the fear that threatens to consume you.
What are you afraid of? Take God’s word in your hand and take God at His word!
